Agri-Cycle Energy has been around since 2011 and is growing and expanding every day. Keep reading to understand how we went from being a small-scale independent farm to how we scaled up to serving clients and partners across the Northeast!
Agri-Cycle’s Unique Journey
2011 to 2014
Our early beginnings started with a farm and a few digestors. We then began testing our limits and expanding in new and exciting ways!
Anaerobic digesters:
These were added to Stonyvale Farm for manure management which eventually evolved into organics management.
Local support:
Agri-Cycle Energy began to support its sister company, Exeter Agri-Energy locally.
New territory:
Expanding into Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York, Agri-Cycle’s operations set off beyond Maine state boundaries!
2014 to 2018
With depackaging technology, favorable legislative changes, and increased company expansion, Agri-Cycle continued to thrive. All of these factors fueled the ongoing success of Agri-Cycle!
More power:
Agri-Cycle installed a larger anaerobic digester producing enough energy to power 3,000 homes. Woweee!
Depackaging magic:
To add to the fleet of digesters, Maine installed its first depackager meant to filter out packaging and non-organics from the digestion process. This attracted large grocery store clients to join the Agri-Cycle team!
Food waste recycling legislation:
Legislative changes began taking place to support food waste recycling and prevent the landfilling of food waste.
Continued expansion:
Agri-Cycle continued to grow and expand to 3500 acres of croplands. Additionally, Agri-Cycle purchased the New Hampshire-based company, “WholeCycle.”
2018 to 2022
Aside from navigating the end of the global pandemic during this time period, we experienced a ton of changes and growth. We were able to purchase long-term strategic partners and expand our services to soils as well as grease traps!
Purchased Wholecycle:
‘Wholecycle’ a New Hampshire-based composting company was bought by Agri-Cycle during this time.
Purchased Food Grease Trappers:
Agri-Cycle also purchased FoodGrease Trappers which became integrated into the business model. This new tech allowed us to accept fats and oils from clients and partners. FGT also joined the team!
Purchased We Compost It:
Additionally, Agri-Cycle bought the Southern Maine compost company, We Compost It during this era.
Today and Beyond
Today we are diverting over 300 tons of food waste daily throughout our tote collections, liquid routes, and national reverse logistics services. We look forward to expanding and growing in new ways moving forward!
Our toter routes (roots hehe) extend from Holton, Maine as far east as Buffalo New York, and as far south as Halifax, Virginia.
Our reverse logistics routes have extended nationally by utilizing our in-house technology.
Our plan is to continue expanding South and West to further our operations into new states with new clients and partners.
